On behalf of the Southern Golf Group, congratulations to all premiership-winning teams and to every club, captain and player who participated throughout the season. The standard of golf and commitment shown across all divisions was a credit to our region.

A sincere thank you must also go to our host clubs for their hospitality, course presentation and ongoing support of Southern Golf Group Pennant competition. The success of the season would not be possible without the willingness of clubs to host matches and provide a welcoming environment for players and spectators alike.

We also acknowledge the tremendous efforts of our Club Pennant Co-ordinators, Pennant Captains and players, together with the many members, volunteers and supporters who travelled week after week to support their clubs.

A special thank you is extended to the Southern Golf Group Match Committee for the outstanding work they do behind the scenes in planning, organising and co-ordinating the entire pennant season. Their dedication and attention to detail ensure the smooth running of one of the district’s most important competitions.

As we continue to review and improve our competitions, clubs are encouraged to provide feedback on the 2026 Pennant Season. Any suggestions, comments or ideas can be forwarded to admin@southerngolfgroup.com.au and will be considered by the Match Committee and Southern Golf Group Board.

Competitors represented 18 clubs across the region, including Aston Hills, Bordertown, Echunga, Kooyonga, Links Lady Bay, McCracken, North Adelaide, Oakbank, Port Augusta, Regency Park, Robe, Strathalbyn, South Lakes, Thaxted Park, The Vines, Victor Harbor, Westwood Ho and Willunga.

The overall winner was Gillian Doyle (Willunga) with an impressive 41 points.
– A Grade: Jane George (Willunga) topped the field on countback with 36 points.
– B Grade: Gillian Doyle (Willunga) secured first place with 41 points.
– C Grade: Samantha Bradley (Thaxted) claimed victory with 39 points.

Winners received prizes ranging from Willunga membership vouchers to Minijumbuck and Yummy Nuts vouchers, along with golf balls for placegetters. Special contests included Most Accurate Drives on the 10th hole and Nearest the Pin challenges across grades.

Generous sponsorship from the City of Onkaparinga Council, Minijumbuck, Yummy Nuts and The Noarlunga Golf Hub made the day possible. Raffle donations from local businesses raised approximately $750, adding to the success.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the Ladies Sub‑Committee and all members who contributed to such a memorable event.

This event is a significant step in the club’s initiative to become a dementia-friendly environment, showcasing the community’s commitment to making golf accessible and enjoyable for everyone. The day featured a 9-hole Ambrose competition, where teams of four, consisting of two club members and two visiting players, teamed up to navigate the course together.

This format not only encouraged camaraderie but also ensured that all participants felt supported throughout their experience. For those who needed assistance, motorised golf carts were available, enhancing accessibility for everyone involved.

Participants were warmly welcomed upon arrival, enjoying a delightful morning tea before teeing off. Following the round, players and carers alike gathered for a delicious lunch prepared by the talented women of the club, fostering a sense of community and shared enjoyment. To add an extra touch of excitement, prizes in the form of Oakbank Golf Club caps and stubby holders were awarded, celebrating the spirit of friendly competition.

Feedback collected through evaluation forms highlighted the day’s success, with participants praising the warm atmosphere and expressing enthusiasm for future events of this nature. The overwhelming response indic

ates a strong desire for more inclusive activities, reaffirming Oakbank Golf Club’s commitment to creating a welcoming space for all. The club looks forward to hosting more events that promote awareness and support for dementia, encouraging even more players to join in the fun.

It was a hard-fought day, with an exciting finish as Jess Reynolds claimed victory on the 18th hole, finishing 1 up—our sole win of the round. Lisa Faerhmann also took her opponent to the 18th but narrowly lost 2 down.

A tremendous effort by all our players to challenge such a strong team! A big thank you to The Grange Golf Club for hosting—the course was in amazing condition.

Next week, we head to Sandy Creek for the 5th and final round of the Pike Cup. Let’s finish strong!

Despite missing our number one player due to unexpected work commitments, we reshuffled and fought fiercely. The result? A nail-biting finish, with our team just missing out, 3-4.
Victory seemed within reach for much of the day, as several players led during crucial stages, only to be overtaken in the closing holes. Hats off to our winners—Ben Leske, Phil Chapman, and Jarrod Thoman—who delivered solid performances. Every other player gave it their all, and it came down to the finest of margins—a putt or two could have turned the tide.

With one round remaining, we face Royal Adelaide at Grange Golf Club. While relegation feels unavoidable, our team is committed to giving it everything, pushing for a memorable final round. Stay tuned for updates as we chase one last big win!

The post Pike Cup Pennant Update – Round 3 first appeared on Southern Golf Group.

Round 5 of the Simpson Cup took place at Glenelg on Sunday, in a must-win battle for our Southern team against Thaxted Park. Both teams entered winless, with the stakes high: the loser would face the grim prospect of relegation.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t our day, with a final score of 2-5 against us. On the bright side, we had standout performances from Andy Fiebig, who secured a solid victory at number 1, and Simon Connelly, who delivered an emphatic win at number 3. The rest of our players fought valiantly under tough, windy conditions, showing great resilience.

While this match may have been our best chance to stave off relegation, the fight isn’t over yet. We have two matches remaining: this week against The Vines at Kooyonga and our final showdown with Royal Adelaide at Grange.

Our players have proven their potential on their day, and we’re all hoping for a strong finish. Let’s rally behind the team and aim to turn the tide in these final rounds!
