The Southern Golf Group is proud to again manage and support the South Australian Country District Junior Pennant teams in 2026.

This season, 11 players from Southern Golf Group are included in the two squads.

d. Our second round victory against Blackwood at Royal Adelaide was very decisive – 5-0. Bejay Thomas had a 1up win at number 1 position, Jack Oxford a resounding victory 7&5 and Tristan Lakin-Hall a great win 6&5 after playing his first Sharp Cup match after coming up from Div. 2.

Our Div. 2 team (Handicap match play) had two narrow 2-3 losses against Mid-North at Royal Adelaide and The Grange at Westward Ho to start but bounced back with a 4-1 victory over Royal Adelaide at Glenelg. Great wins to Peter Little (7&6) and Franklin Vanzetti (2&1) and a halved match to Joshua Little ensured victory.

The season will continue after a break for the Women’s Australian Open.

Willunga’s 2025 Ladies Open Day

Willunga Golf Club was alive with colour and creativity as 101 players embraced the ‘P’ theme, arriving in outfits ranging from Police Officers to Pumpkins, with plenty of Pink and Purple on display. The ladies’ stunning floral arrangements added a special touch to the clubhouse and change rooms.

Competitors represented 18 clubs across the region, including Aston Hills, Bordertown, Echunga, Kooyonga, Links Lady Bay, McCracken, North Adelaide, Oakbank, Port Augusta, Regency Park, Robe, Strathalbyn, South Lakes, Thaxted Park, The Vines, Victor Harbor, Westwood Ho and Willunga.

The overall winner was Gillian Doyle (Willunga) with an impressive 41 points.
– A Grade: Jane George (Willunga) topped the field on countback with 36 points.
– B Grade: Gillian Doyle (Willunga) secured first place with 41 points.
– C Grade: Samantha Bradley (Thaxted) claimed victory with 39 points.

Winners received prizes ranging from Willunga membership vouchers to Minijumbuck and Yummy Nuts vouchers, along with golf balls for placegetters. Special contests included Most Accurate Drives on the 10th hole and Nearest the Pin challenges across grades.

Generous sponsorship from the City of Onkaparinga Council, Minijumbuck, Yummy Nuts and The Noarlunga Golf Hub made the day possible. Raffle donations from local businesses raised approximately $750, adding to the success.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the Ladies Sub‑Committee and all members who contributed to such a memorable event.

Celebrating Oakbank Golf Club’s Dementia Awareness Golf Day

On September 19, Oakbank Golf Club proudly hosted a memorable golf day aimed at fostering inclusivity and support for individuals living with dementia and their carers.

This event is a significant step in the club’s initiative to become a dementia-friendly environment, showcasing the community’s commitment to making golf accessible and enjoyable for everyone. The day featured a 9-hole Ambrose competition, where teams of four, consisting of two club members and two visiting players, teamed up to navigate the course together.

This format not only encouraged camaraderie but also ensured that all participants felt supported throughout their experience. For those who needed assistance, motorised golf carts were available, enhancing accessibility for everyone involved.

Participants were warmly welcomed upon arrival, enjoying a delightful morning tea before teeing off. Following the round, players and carers alike gathered for a delicious lunch prepared by the talented women of the club, fostering a sense of community and shared enjoyment. To add an extra touch of excitement, prizes in the form of Oakbank Golf Club caps and stubby holders were awarded, celebrating the spirit of friendly competition.

Feedback collected through evaluation forms highlighted the day’s success, with participants praising the warm atmosphere and expressing enthusiasm for future events of this nature. The overwhelming response indic

ates a strong desire for more inclusive activities, reaffirming Oakbank Golf Club’s commitment to creating a welcoming space for all. The club looks forward to hosting more events that promote awareness and support for dementia, encouraging even more players to join in the fun.

South Australian Country Golf Championships and Allan Telford Cup

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS

The South Australian Country Golf Championships were held in Berri on 14–15 July, with seven players proudly representing the Southern Golf Group.

Standout performances included Lily Harris (Victor Harbor Golf Club) – Runner-up in the Girls Country Nett competition and Bejay Thomas (Willunga Golf Club) – 3rd in the Boys Country Gross and 2nd in the Nett.

ALLAN TELFORD CUP

On the 16 July, six of our players headed to Loxton to compete in the Allan Telford Cup (formerly the Brett Ogle Cup), a one-day event with teams competing played in stroke and nett formats, with the best four scores contributing to the final results.

What a great finish to an incredible pennant season with fantastic weather conditions and no rain!

We’d also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the Host Clubs for their outstanding hospitality. Pennant simply wouldn’t be possible without the ongoing support and generosity of our wonderful clubs.

JUNIOR PENNANT UPDATE

What an incredible day for both our Junior Pennant teams in the final round matches of the season, held yesterday at Tea Tree Gully against the home side.

Our Sharp Cup team secured an impressive 3½ to 1½ victory, clinching their spot in the semifinal next week. Zac Shanks (Mount Gambier) and Blake Schroder (Mount Gambier) achieved thrilling 1-hole victories, while Jack Oxford (Victor Harbor) dominated with a stunning 5/4 win. Darcy Bald (Waikerie) showed great determination after an early setback, and Joshua Goldsworthy (Loxton) fought back from 4 down to secure a clutch halve on the 18th hole. A fantastic team effort—well done!

Meanwhile, our Division 2 team shone with a commanding 4/1 win! Victories came from Tristan Lakin-Hall (South Lakes), Olivier Seuteni (Willunga), Maicey Hughes (Berri), and Hunta Hicks (South Lakes), with Christopher Watson (South Lakes) putting up a brave fight in a narrow loss. In the reserve spot, Ellie Hughes (Berri) also delivered a strong win. Exceptional performances all around.

The Sharp Cup semifinal will take place next Sunday at The Grange—let’s cheer them on as they continue their journey.

Congratulations to everyone for their dedication and achievements this season!

SIMPSON CUP UPDATE – ROUND 7

The 7th and final round of the Simpson Cup took place yesterday at Grange East, where our Southern team faced the highly rated Royal Adelaide team. Unfortunately, a miracle win that could have saved us from relegation was not to be.

That said, we put up a spirited performance! Andy Fiebig and Cooper Hoppo secured victories, while Phil Chapman achieved a hard-fought half against former Echunga junior Billy Cawthorne. Though the rest of our team battled valiantly, they ultimately fell short in their matches.

This season has offered some promising signs, with valuable experience gained by our rising stars. These young players will undoubtedly grow stronger in the years ahead as we work towards building a robust and competitive team.

With relegation to the A2 division for next year, our focus is now on bouncing back and reclaiming our spot in the Simpson Cup by 2027.

A massive thank you to all the players who participated or made themselves available this season—your dedication is truly appreciated.

PIKE CUP PENNANT UPDATE – ROUND 5

The final round of the Pike Cup for 2025 was played on Sunday, 30th March, at Sandy Creek Golf Club. Our Southern team faced off against Royal Adelaide, resulting in a 4½ to ½ defeat—but it was far from an easy win for the opposition, as three of our players came incredibly close.

Our No. 1 player, Sian Ruis (South Lakes), delivered a thrilling finish by overcoming a 1-down situation heading into the 18th hole, ultimately squaring her match with brilliant golf. Well done, Sian.

Lisa Faerhmann fought hard but was narrowly defeated on the 17th, and Anne Hunter battled to the end but fell just short, losing 2 down on the 18th hole.

A massive thank you to all players for their efforts this year—we are hopeful to compete again next year at this level.

Special thanks to our hosts at Sandy Creek Golf Club for their warm hospitality and the excellent course.

A big shout out to Sue Gibson (Aston Hills) for keeping us updated on match results throughout the season, and last but not least, heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated team manager, Chris Harrison, for her enthusiasm and commitment throughout the year.

Country Districts Junior Pennant Update

The Country Districts Junior Pennant Teams played our home round this week at Willunga. The course was in very good condition and the day was well organised by the Willunga Golf Club – thanks to all those involved.

The Sharp Cup team had a 3 ½ to 1 ½ victory over The Vines. Southern Golf Group were well represented by Bejay Thomas from Willunga and Jack Oxford from Victor Harbor.

Bejay fought back from being down early in the round and won the 18^th hole to secure a halved match. Jack was also down early but fought on for a narrow 2/1 loss.

Our Division 2 team had a hard fought draw, also against The Vines – 2 ½ to 2 ½. Our Southern Golf Group representatives were Tristan Lakin-Hall (win), Ava Woods, and Hunta Hicks all from South Lakes. Christopher Watson, also from South Lakes, played as a reserve in the number 6 spot and had a very good victory.

This week we are playing the home side at Tea Tree Gully. The Sharp Cup team is in 4^th position, and if things go our way, we have a chance to make the semi final play off the following week. Good luck to everyone.

Pike Cup Pennant Update – Round 4

In superb conditions on Sunday, 23/3, the Women’s Southern team competed in Round 4 of the Pike Cup against the undefeated Glenelg team at The Grange Golf Club.

It was a hard-fought day, with an exciting finish as Jess Reynolds claimed victory on the 18th hole, finishing 1 up—our sole win of the round. Lisa Faerhmann also took her opponent to the 18th but narrowly lost 2 down.

A tremendous effort by all our players to challenge such a strong team! A big thank you to The Grange Golf Club for hosting—the course was in amazing condition.

Next week, we head to Sandy Creek for the 5th and final round of the Pike Cup. Let’s finish strong!
