The first round of the Simpson Cup for 2025 has been played, and our Southern team has kicked off with a determined spirit, despite a 0-7 defeat.
While the scoreline may not look too flash, there’s plenty to take away from this game. We were up against the home team on the tight Tea Tree Gully layout, and our players held their own but were eventually edged out by local knowledge and solid performances from the home ground players.
Even though a couple of our players had a tough day, in the other five matches, we were holding our own against the opposition well into the back nine. It was a hard-fought battle, and our players showed great resilience and skill.
The combination of TTG players making the most of their home advantage, while our players couldn’t quite capitalize on the good golf they were playing, led to a fade-out on our part. Our team will surely be reflecting on the lost opportunities, and on a different day, the results would be more favorable.
With the away game now behind us, all upcoming matches will be on neutral turf.
Next game is in two weeks’ time at The Vines versus Kooyonga. Let’s keep the momentum going and bring our best game forward!
Go Team Southern!
