The Southern Golf Group, in conjunction with the Riverland Golf Association, have recently taken on the administration and management of the Country District teams in the Sharp Cup and Division 2 in the junior division of SA Pennant. The Sharp Cup is off the stick match play with Division 2 being handicap match play. This season’s squad consists of players from Port Augusta, Mount Gambier, Riverland and Southern Districts.
Terry Sawade from the Riverland is manager of the Division 2 team, with Steve Scholefield from Southern Golf Group managing the Sharp Cup team.
The first match was on Sunday 9th February at Glenelg. The Sharp Cup team was successful 3 matches to 2 against Blackwood. The three wins were concise with the other two matches in the balance until late in the round with both going to the 18th. The Division 2 team had some new players with little or no experience in match play golf and will be better for the experience moving into the season. There were two halved matches which could have easily been wins with two others being close.
We have a break this week before both teams take on The Grange club at Royal Adelaide on 23rd February.
