After our Washout last week we took on Mid North on their Home Deck at Tanunda Pines In Windy, Wintery Conditions.
The team knew this would be a tough assignment but we’re looking forward to the challenge.
Teeing off first at #7 we had Matt Hage who found himself 3 down early but kept fighting all day, eventually going down 2/1.
Our #6 Lew Rainsford jumped out to lead 3 up early but his opponent fought back gamely during the match to eventually turn the tables and force Lew to a 3/1 loss.
At #5 we had Echunga’s Jason Hyland.
Jase also jumped out the gates early to lead his opponent 4 up after four holes, faltered mid way, but managed to hold on though securing a 2 up win and getting our first points on the board.
At #4 Matt (Max) McDonald had a change of heart from his previous games and went back to the short putter but had some struggles.
Thankfully he did enough and managed to get a 4/2 win.
At #3 Jared Thoman returned this week but also struggled to maintain his normal strong form. He fought hard and never gave up in true Southern style, eventually going down 2/1.
At #2 we had the evergreen Phil Chapman. ‘Chappy’ uncharacteristically was missing fairways and making life difficult for himself. Getting to 3 down after 12 holes, he brought it back to 2 before a lip-out for a win on on 17 left him short and losing 2/1.
At #1 Captain David Ling had a tight game all day, but eased his way to 2 up after 7 before a couple of errant tee shots left him 1 down late in the round. He fought back to square before finishing with a birdie on the last to achieve a great 1 up win.
Unfortunately this wasn’t quite enough and the team fell short going down 4/3 overall.
With every game going past 16 holes, this was a tight (and frustrating) loss.
We now have a week off before next (home) game at McCracken on the 18th. It would be great to see some support out there for the Men as they seek to cement a finals berth with a win!
