On Friday 24th May, 64 ladies from 12 clubs – Aston Hills, Echunga, Lake Albert, Links Lady Bay, Lameroo, McCracken, Mount Osmond, North Adelaide, Oakbank, Thaxted Park, The Vines and Willunga – headed to Strathalbyn Golf Course to join in their Frilly Friday Gala Day, playing a Pinehurst competition.

The ladies came dressed up in an amazing array of frills of all descriptions looking for a fun day of golf. Thankfully, the weather was perfect for playing golf once the chill of the morning had disappeared.

Winners of the Nett competition with a fabulous score of 63.87 were Christine Halliday and Carolyn Salisbury from The Vines.

Runners up were Colette Nield and Jane George from Willunga with a score of 73.37.

Gross winners on 91 on a countback were Denise Store and Ingrid Svilans from Thaxted Park while runners up (also on a countback) scoring 91 were Angela Hyde and Di Traeger from Lameroo.

The NTP for ‘A’ Grade was won by Denise Stone from Thaxted Park. NTP ‘B’ Grade winner was Judith Giersch from North Adelaide. Longest drive for ‘A’ Grade was won by Ingrid Svilans from Thaxted Park while Heather Cranna from Oakbank won the ‘B’ Grade long drive.

Novelty prizes included nearest Frilly Fiona (golf club with eyes and a frill!!) and this went to Helena Holman from Thaxted Park.

The Best Dressed Pair was won by Marg Young and Barb Couzens from McCracken and their very close Runner-ups were Simone Coonan and Tracey White from Aston Hills.  The Travellers award went to heather Cranna and Susan Bennetts from Oakbank.

After biscuit and buns with coffee and tea when they arrived, to mushroom, minestrone and pumpkin soups as they passed the club house about halfway round, the ladies were then treated to a delicious lunch of pork steak, potatoes, carrots and broccolini served with sage and gravy followed by homemade apple pie and ice cream. Wonderful comments all round.

Thank must go to all the sponsors who donated goods towards the raffle and the prizes. Without your help our day would not be the success it is.

Further thank you needs to go to all the club members who gave of their time to make the day run so smoothly.

Thanks to the men on the 6th/15th hole with the Port and Chocolates, the bonfire and the little extras that happen as the players head over the creek with hopeful accuracy.

A great day had by all and already queries about next year.
